The Occupational English Test

OET (Occupational English Test) is designed to meet the specific English language needs of the healthcare sector. It assesses the language proficiency of healthcare professionals who wish to practise in an English-speaking environment. All four language skills are assessed, with Writing and Speaking tests available in 12 different areas of healthcare. All candidates sit the same Reading and Listening tests. OET is accepted as proof of English proficiency in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, Namibia and Singapore for registration in 12 healthcare professions. OET is owned by Cambridge Boxhill Language Assessment Trust (CBLA). It is a venture between Cambridge English and Box Hill Institute.

About Speaking & Writing

Read Aloud: Within a set amount of time, the test-taker must read aloud a passage. The test-ability taker's to read accurately and fluently while using the proper intonation and pronunciation determines their score. Repeat Sentences: A sentence will be read aloud, and the test-taker will have a set amount of time to repeat it. About Listening

The test-taker will hear a lecture or conversation, and they will have a set amount of time to summarise it in one line. The test-taker will listen to a tape and respond to multiple-choice questions based on the information contained in the recording. Fill in the Blanks: The test-taker will listen to a tape that has a number of blanks, and they must insert the proper words where indicated.

About Reading

Multiple-Choice Questions: After reading a passage, test-takers will respond to questions based on the text's themes. Re-order Many paragraphs will be presented to the test-taker in a random order, and they must be rearranged to create a logical narrative. Fill in the Blanks: The test-taker will be presented with a section that contains a number of blanks, and they must insert the proper words where indicated.
